Child Portrait Photography - My January Project

3 minute read

Month of Jorja

Having a bit more time on my hands before work gets busier in the spring, I took the opportunity to work on some personal projects at the start of the year.  I love taking portraits and I love photographing my kids so my plan was to take a photograph of Jorja (to start with) every day in January.  I wanted to try a range of different styles, from simple clean portraits to environmental portraits and trying out different types of lighting.

I anticipated a couple of potential problems.  Firstly Jorja's co-operation, which turned out not be a problem at all and she happily collaborated with extra ideas.  I think being involved in the process and only interrupting her day for a few minutes helped.  Also, with daylight hours being short in January especially when the kids are at school on weekdays, I worried about the lack of natural light but this never became a problem as I had plenty to keep me busy with additional light.  Turns out I quite like the dark.

I loved doing this so much, I was a bit sad when it was complete but I've had Dexter to move on to and keep me busy.  Here's the full collection of my month of Jorja:-
